Really? Because I was under the impression that making one as comfortable as possible when sick was proper conduct among humans.

[restitchtime]

I don't know, I've never had proper conduct when I've been sick before. [she regrets saying that almost instantly. that sounds too much like a weakness.]

[conciliates]

[ Kanaya bites on her lower lip. she never knows how to respond when Rose alludes to these sorts of things -- it can't exactly shock her, considering the fact that back on Alternia, Rose's relationship with her guardian would've been nothing to bat an eye at, but it still doesn't sit right with her. not with what she knows of human society and their strange little 'family' set-ups, and not when her own lusus was never anything but kind to her. and when Rose says that, God help her, Kanaya feels something scarily like pity well up in her chest, even though it makes her want to kick herself and even though Rose would unquestionably kill her (in a way that'd stick) if she let it show.

so instead she puts on a stern face and says: ] Well, you're having it now. [ snatching the water bottle from Rose's hand, she pours her a cup of water, which she places in her hands. ] Here.

[ she's not going to push her luck with the straw, there ]

[restitchtime]

[Rose is just a little too bemused by the forceful kindness to protest, just taking it with a faintly perplexed look on her face. she stares down at the cup for a moment before looking back up at Kanaya, expression more collected now. maybe she's a little grateful for the interest, but there's no way in hell she'd let that show.]

You just really love uphill battles, don't you?

[conciliates]

Oh, I simply adore them, and wish they could serve as my main form of reproduction.

[restitchtime]

Hey now, no need to get personal with me. You're going to have to find somebody else for that shit.

[conciliates]

It's a shame people as intransigent as you are so difficult to come by.

[restitchtime]

I think that if they were any more people as monumentally bitchy as me the universe would collapse in on itself.

[conciliates]

Admittedly, regardless of whether or not you are willing to fulfill my reproductory needs, one of you is just about all I can handle. Though I would not call you "bitchy", much less monumentally so, or to a degree that would be able to collapse the universe were it magnified twofold.

[restitchtime]

[she tuts good-naturedly] Give it time. If you've already figured out I'm goddamn difficult to deal with the rest of the revelation's coming up soon.

[conciliates]

Is that so? I'd kind of assumed all parts of the revelation would arrive hand in hand.

[restitchtime]

Nah. Most people are too optimistic to really believe the whole thing at once. They keep thinking 'oh, it can't really be that bad' until it's too late.

[conciliates]

Or maybe you're just not that bad.

[restitchtime]

[that gets a laugh out of her] Sure, and maybe the sky's going to come down around our heads in a few minutes.

[conciliates]

When you consider the way in which both our home planets met their fiery doom, that probably doesn't sound as implausible as you would've liked for it to.

[restitchtime]

Yeah, but we fixed all that. The apocalypse decides to start up again and I'm going to be pretty damn pissed after all the work we poured into patching things up.

[conciliates]

Oh, no, I will definitely be right there with you on the pissed-offment. I'm just saying, it's a proven possibility.

[ she pauses, the tip of one fang pressing into her lower lip ] And anyway, I don't think you're that bad.

[restitchtime]

[she raises an eyebrow] Take off the rose-colored shades, Fussbudget, it doesn't match your outfit.

[conciliates]

I guarantee you that I am not donning any ocular coverings of any coloration at the moment, Rose.

[restitchtime]

Then you're just really determined to have me call you stupid or unobservant, aren't you?

[conciliates]

I don't see why it'd require any significant amount of determination, considering the minimal effort one would have to go to in order to earn a slight from you.

[restitchtime]

I don't either, but that doesn't seem to be stopping you from putting way too much effort into it.

[conciliates]

[ she rolls her eyes ] If anyone here is putting too much effort into anything, it's you into arguing me out of liking you. That's not going to work, you know. I can only hope you realize I'm not here due to some sense of one of your befuddling human brands of antagonism.

[restitchtime]

No? And here I'd gone to all the trouble of locking up my valuables before you showed up. I'm a little disappointed, honestly.

[she will argue people out of liking her all she wants ok!!! Rose Strider is unable to keep friends and that is that!!!1!]
