For some reason you are at a slumber party. No. Seriously. You are at a slumber party. DON'T QUESTION IT. You can be there by choice, or maybe just the will of the universe teleported you there. Who knows. All that is important now is you are involved in a slumber party ritual and you have to participate. No. Seriously. You are compelled to.

Also, you may be wearing a slumber party outfit... whether it's appropriate or not is up to how cruel your mun is the fates.

[ pause. ]

( she starts banging on the door. )

[rooster]

[ slowly, haru rises to his full height, coming up just behind shizuku. the hand banging on the door is soon covered up by one of his own, the other coming up to press flat against the door, just beside her head. he steps up right behind her, their bodies just barely brushing. when he speaks, he dips his head down, lips hovering over her ear. ]

We can give them a reason to want to intervene.

[schoolaholic]

( and then.... )

( she immediately pauses her movements and inhales a small sharp breath at the sound of his voice tickling on her ear. her face heats red and heart pounds harder. there's a huge lump in her throat as she tries to find words. )

W-W-W-W-What are you talking about?

[rooster]

[ haru steps back, holds up a fist, and with a straight face, says, ]

If I knock you out, people will want to rush in to check on you!

[schoolaholic]

... Or maybe I should hit you instead.

[rooster]

Haha no one's gonna believe you can knock me out, come on!

[schoolaholic]

( there's a sigh from her, admitting defeat with... well, everything. she goes back to her little corner and sits. )

[rooster]

[ oho...! haru proceeds to shake his fist at the door she's just abandoned. ]

You win this time, game..!!!

[ and then he plops down on the floor beside her, tipping back to let his head rest on her lap. because that's totally okay. ]

So why'd you come if you were just going to spend the night not playing, anyway?

( without thinking, she says: )

When I heard about you coming, I couldn't help myself.

[rooster]

[ he blinks up at her. ]

...if you wanted to spend time with me, you could have just said so. We could've gone to a movie! Or — ooh! — an amusement park!!

[schoolaholic]

( oh.. she didn't mean to say that out loud. she looks quickly over at... the clothes near them. )

I suppose...

[rooster]

Let's plan something out for the next weekend! It'll just be the two of us!

[schoolaholic]

( she hums quietly in agreement and for a few short moments, she is silent. )

... Haru?

[rooster]

[ his eyes have fallen shut now, comfortable and safe in her lap that he doesn't even think twice about letting his guard down so easily. ]

Yeah, Shizuku?

[schoolaholic]

( it's good that his eyes are shut, it makes it easier for her to say this next thing. )

If... if you wish to kiss me, you... have permission.

( though, she's wondering what's possessing her to say that. every second with him is making her fall more and more for him. and that's a bad thing because it would mean her grades will suffer. if her grades suffer, she won't become successful like her mother. they really need to get out of this closet. it's not making her think clearly. maybe she should take back what she just offered. )

[rooster]

[ it takes a moment for those words to actually process in haru's mind, and when it does, he's sitting up so carefully, he doesn't even make a sound. as if any sudden movement or noise might scare this moment away...

he's quiet, too, when he lifts a hand, sets it gently along her cheek to tip her face up slightly. and then he's leaning in, letting his breath tickle her lips before—

a soft peck to the corner of her lips.

he pulls back, meeting her eyes with a grin. ]

I don't need some dumb game to make me want to kiss you. When we do it, I want it to mean something, too.
