[Claude's arms tighten protectively around those fragile shoulders as Alois rests his head against his side.]

Both I and our child have been blessed by your love, Master. You never failed.

[Love. It's an extremely difficult concept to understand for a demon. It's in Claude's nature to be destructive, to raise the souls of his preys just to consume them right afterwards. Yet Alois' nature is Claude's exact foil.

His Master's nature is nurturing. Without someone to take care of, be it his little brother, Claude himself or their child, his soul has no reason to exist.

Inconsistence. That is what he told Alois the first time he met him. Having lost Luca, the child had neither consistency nor focus left in himself. He was just an empty shell, but Claude saw the potential in it. He saw a fierce sparkle in his soul, and he let it grow until he himself fell victim of that burning passion.

The love of the four of us will reach an eternal Nirvana. Those had been Hannah's words. The doors of Nirvana had opened for Claude when he finally acknowledged that his Master's ability to love, to care and to nurture is a strength, rather than a weakness. He still marvels at the incredible things the soul he's cradling in his arms is able to accomplish. Alois hasn't slept in a long time, yet the passionate desire to nurture their child keeps him on his feet.

It's a kind of strength demons do not have.]

With a noble soul such as yours, you cannot possibly fail. You will never be alone again. Allow me to show my devotion to the both of you by helping you.

[The love of the two of us will raise this child. Love is still difficult to comprehend, but Hannah's words make more and more sense everyday that goes by. The most difficult part is expressing his feelings in a way a human can understand, but he does try. He speaks with his face pressed against Alois' hair.]

Put him back in the crib. I will take you to bed, Master.

[ for some moments longer, alois simply rests, practically unmoving, against claude. as always, it's a sanctuary, to be enveloped in those arms and tucked against his chest. he wonders if it's wrong to consider it a blessing? are blessings reserved only for angels and for angels to give away? it's something lucky, something he'd never expect to have—this kind of love. the hardest struggle is feeling deserving of it, but as long as he puts claude foremost, that's something he usually tends not to think about.

finally, he secures his hold around the babe and slowly slides his legs to allow feet to touch the rug of the floor. it takes him a moment to stand, weary bodies are some of gravity's favorite sort. it's not without wobbling either, even as he's shuffling across the floor to lay the baby down, there's quivers in the joints of his knees threatening to make him drop at any moment. he pulls back the little down blanket in the bassinet, eases their son's curled tiny fingers from the ruffle of his blouse, and carefully tucks him in. even then, he doesn't return to claude right away. he braces himself against the side of the lace covered little cradle, bending over to kiss eyebrows, cheeks, and lips, and brush soft clean baby hair. he murmurs affectionate things to it, and then, only then, draws away.

he doesn't approach claude, though he wants to march and slam his face into his stomach and throw his arms around him. he doesn't move, he stands with a hand keeping him up, steady, upon the bassinet's side.
]

What if he grows to resent me because I laid him down and I'm taking up your attention? [ he wants so badly to be picked up. it makes him guilty. he had a baby, with claude, he should be over desires like that. he wants to be held, he wants hands brushing his hair, and reassuring words, and stories, and being folded into blankets again. it's selfish to want to stay young and be treated young when you have a baby. ]

[Becoming a father had not been easy for Claude, either. Sometimes, when he's alone with the baby, he still has to fight the impulse of gouging those small red eyes out. He feels the growing need to rip the flesh off those little bones, and eat all the tiny organs of his baby until there's nothing left. He can't always refrain himself from despising this child.

Demons are naturally territorial. Claude had accepted Alois' affection for Hannah mostly because he always seemed to forget about her the moment Claude claimed his attention. Yet ever since the baby was born, Claude had stopped being Alois' only reason of life. He knows the baby is as much in Alois' thoughts as Claude himself is, and that drives him mad.

But he resisted every impulse of getting rid of that little creature who's stealing his Master's attentio from him day after day. He imagines he'll grow fonder of him one day. After all, it took him years to realize he was capable of feelings for Alois.

But right not he can forget about all that. He picks Alois up and carries him to the bedroom. He sits on the bed with his Master on his lap, and kisses his forehead. Alois is the only child he wants to ever take care of.]

I will never allow anybody to hurt you, Master. Not even my son. All you would have to do is give me an order, and I would make him regret ever resenting you.

[He has dreamed about this. He dreamed of pushing Alois to his breaking point, to watch him cruble and finally ask him to make the baby disappear from his sight. Claude would be delighted to obey.]

Should I punish him for having exhausted you so much?
