[ Shadow couldn't possibly comprehend what he felt for him beyond love.
He loved Maria. She was everything to him, his family, his sister by everything but blood, his driving force... yet he never could love her the way he did Sonic. Likewise, he couldn't love him the way he did Maria. The division of familial and romantic love was a jagged and puzzling fissure with boundaries he still didn't understand, not on an emotional level. He doubted he ever would figure it out either.
Yet despite the differences, he loved them both with equal fire in his heart to protect and cherish them both. He'd failed Maria in that regard. He regretted not doing more with her, for her, and he couldn't save her from a gruesome death. He lost his chance with her. He still remembered sinking in his pod amidst the stars, tears dripping into bloodied hands, his blood, her blood...
He was not going to let anything happen to Sonic, not like with her. He was going to defend him with his last breath, if need be.
He wanted him to be around... forever.
Shadow waited, waited as told, yet with a twinge in his heart that told him to stop him. Why was he rummaging through his stuff exactly? That was completely invasive. Once he saw the familiar gleam of those inhibitors, however, he relaxed. He knew he could trust Sonic not to do anything too reckless with those. He knew how much he needed them...
Those words, however...
That wasn't what he expected.
He gave a soft huff, fingertips grazing over peach, a rare glimmer of ease radiating in his own eyes. He looked to the blue hedgehog with a look that could only be described as uncertainty, not knowing what to expect. With this one, he never did know what to expect, really. He was always so spontaneous...
A promise, though? He'd sooner expect him jumping off of a cliff with him, hand-in-hand, hoping for a safe landing. He arched a single brow, keeping otherwise still. ]
That is... unlike you.
[ He leaned in a little, his musk, scents of earth and pine, dancing off of azure, making his heart flutter within him. ]
Just tell me already.
[ He did prefer to be straightforward, after all, rather than dancing around an issue or a subject. ]
